steam week schedules

The STEAM fun begins on Monday! All activities are optional; some will be led live virtually, others can be done at your leisure. See attached schedules for grades TK-2 and grades 3-5.

Supplies needed for the Ooblek activity on Monday:
- ½ cup water
- 1 cup corn starch
- 1-2 drops of food coloring (optional)

Supplies needed for the Snowflake activity on Thursday:
20 mini marshmallows, 2 large marshmallows, 20 toothpicks
If you don't have the above supplies at home, you can pick up a supply kit for one or both activities, in the plastic bin next to the main office on campus. Limited quantities available so first come first served.

The PTA board is also now accepting proposals for parent-run Fun Run options, to replace the Boosterthon-led event we have been doing each Fall. We know you have great ideas, so send them in! Please include the following information in your proposal:

Date, time, and chair name
Schedule of events (starting with at minimum 3 months out, through week of and day of schedules)
Expenses
Incentives
Volunteer needs
Details to promote student buy-in
Proposals should be submitted by January 18, to [email protected].

Note: Historically, the Fun Run raises $30,000+ for the PTA. We have about 500 kids, which means to hit $30,000, each student would only have to raise $60 to hit the goal. With an anticipated set of costs at $8,000, each student would have to hit, on average, $76

goodie bag pick up

No more activities, but there are goodie bags to keep the fun and learning going! International Week goodie bags will be available outside the main office, after 9:30am today. Be sure to take a bag, a flyer that explains the items inside, and a coupon from local restaurant Izakaya!

Bags and labels are courtesy of Jenny Castaneda, items inside are gifts from the PTA, and also donated by Camille Mojica- enjoy!

that's a wrap!

Well folks, that's a wrap on International Week 2021! Despite being in a virtual format, it was wonderful to see so many students show up for all the various activities - we visited some places in the world without ever leaving our homes!

We heard vivid stories from Africa and Cuba, baked Italian cookies, learned about Indigenous culture in the present day, learned to speak some Spanish and French, made Chinese New Year dragons, and cooked Filipino pancit. The kids were engaged and eager to participate, and we hope they had a great time.

Thank you to the volunteers (tagged) who made this event happen, and thank you to the PTA for sponsoring this important event for our entire community.

We have one last treat for all of you - what's a party without a goodie bag?! Goodie bags will be available for pick up tomorrow, next to the main office after 9am. Please take one bag per family, we'll be happy to distribute more if there are extras. A big thank you to Jenny Castaneda for her generous donation of the bags and labels to hold all the goodies we have for you!! to edit.

chicken pancit recipe

A guest chef will teach us how to make a tasty Filipino rice noodle dish tomorrow These are the ingredients needed (all can be found at our local grocery stores), and you can easily make the dish vegetarian. Attached are some prep steps and the cooking instructions, so please take a look if you want to follow along tomorrow. You can also watch the cooking demo and try your hand at making it yourself another time!

Ingredients:
1 bag rice noodle/pancit bihon noodle
10-12 oz. chicken breast (omit for vegetarian version)
1 cup chicken stock (use veggie stock for vegetarian version)
3 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 medium cabbage (shredded)
10 cloves peeled garlic
1 medium onion
1 bunch green onions sliced
3 pieces of celery stalk
2 medium sized carrots
1 lemon

last activities for international week

Tomorrow is our last day of activities, and we are finishing out with two great sessions.

3:30-4 French lesson (print attached worksheets ahead of time, or pick up a hard copy from outside the main office)

5-6pm Cooking class where kids can learn how to make a popular filipino rice noodle dish, Chicken Pancit. See separate post for full list of ingredients, prep steps and cooking instructions.

Happy Wednesday! Today's International Week activities:

1:30-2pm Spanish lesson - have printed worksheets on hand, along with crayons/markers/colored pencils

4-5pm Dragon art project - pick up an art kit next to the main office beforehand. You'll also need a cardboard paper roll, glue, glue gun, pencil, and scissors.
